Antique 1873 Winchester. OB. 44-40. Fine Bore. Excellent Mechanics.
Description:
SOLD... Antique 1873 Winchester OB. 44-40 Caliber. Fine bore.. Here is a nice ole 1873 Winchester in the very sought after 44-40 caliber. S/N 442861 and made in very late 1892 or very early 1893. Has the standard 24" octagon barrel. The bore is very fine with just light frosting and very strong rifling. No pits or craters. No bulges. Well above average bore than I usually see. The mechanics are excellent. One of the smoothest actions I have had on a 73. It feeds, fires and ejects flawlessly. The metal over all has been cleaned long ago and is a light gray to silver patina. NO pitting any where on the gun. Has the original dust cover that still retracts with the lever throw. All the markings are excellent as you can see in the photos. Has the original front and rear sights with the front sight having the blade replaced long ago. The sight base is original. The wood is pretty good. The forearm is solid. Looks like an old repaired sliver on the right side along the barrel channel and a tight grain split on the left side. Both are hardly noticeable and are solid as a rock. The bottom of the forearm down where it meets the receiver has some wear from riding over a saddle pommel hundreds of miles on horse back and shows excellent character. The butt stock has a piece missing on the left side along the upper tang as you can see. It measures about 1 1/4" long and 1/4 “ deep at the front and tappers back as you can see in the photo. Also shows a couple deep gouges on the left side as you can see in the photos. NO other splits , cracks or repairs and is very solid also. The screws are good and not all burred up. Over all a very honest 1873 that shows some use but no abuse. It is in the right caliber with the octagon barrel and has a great bore and functions perfectly. I have it priced fairly because of the wood and with a little work could make the wood much better if so desired. I would just leave it alone and enjoy it as a great shooting and collector 1873. The prices of these 73's in this configuration are going through the roof. $50 insured shipping. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos as I want the buyer to be totally satisfied with their purchase or your money back. Please check out my other listings while you are here as I might have something else of interest to you.
