Antique 1873 Winchester SRC. 44-40. Very Nice Bore. Excellent Mechanics.MFG 1889.
Description: SOLD...Antique 1873 Winchested SRC in the 44-40 caliber with nice bore. Here is a pretty nice original 1873 SRC. S/N 287198 and made in very early 1889. Has the standard 20" barrel. The bore is very nice and a bit above average for these SRC's. It has strong and sharp rifling all the way through with some small spots of minor roughness. NO big craters and NO rings or bulges. Just above average bore for this model as most you will find have been used to death with very rough and heavily pitted bores. This one is very good. It feeds, fires and ejects just fine and shoots great. Mechanics are excellent with strong springs throughout. Both hammer notches are perfect and hold positive. Has the original dust cover that still retracts with the lever throw. Has the original saddle ring and stud. Has the original front and rear SRC sights with the rear sight marked 1873 as is correct. The markings are all very nice as you can see but the caliber markings on the brass carrier show some wear as is common but still visible as you can see. The screw heads are not all burred up from tinkering and look good and all are servicable. The metal is a pretty smooth medium gray-brown patina with some darker spots here and there on the barrel and mag tube but looks like it has never been cleaned on or messed with much at all. There is some VERY light roughness on the top of the receiver and the end of the dust cover but absolutely nothing deep or detracting from this honest ole 73 SRC. Has a few minor dings on the left side of the receiver by the saddle ring. The wood is pretty nice also. The forearm fits tight with NO sp[lits or cracks and just a few honest dings and scratches. Above average forearm wood from what you normally find on this model. The butt stock is just a bit lighter in color so has probably been cleaned in the past a little. Does not look like it was sanded on and still fits very well to the upper and lower tangs and the butt plate. Just a little gap on the end of the lower tang and a little on the left side at the bottom of the receiver. Fits very well everywhere else. A couple VERY tight and VERY minor hair line grain cracks that are near invisible to the eye. They are rock solid and nothing missing. I can send up close photos of these if you wish if my camera will even pick them out. This is just a bit above average condition 73 SRC that has seen some honest use but never abused. Most this model as you know can be very rough with worn off markings and bad bores and busted heavily used wood. This one as you can see still pretty nice and clean and not messed with much at all and it is priced reasonable. A nice honest example of the very famous gun that everyone wants at least one in their collection and to shoot and enjoy. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. $50 insured shipping. Please look at other items I have for sale while you are here. I have many more antique rifles to list so check back often so you don't miss them !!!! Thank you for the time looking.
