EXCEPTIONAL SPECIAL ORDER WINCHESTER 1873 SECOND MODEL .44-40 CAL. 28” OCTAGON RIFLE WITH FACTORY LETTER. Serial numbered in the 59,xxx range and all original and matching. Extra long 28” octagon barrel which had to be specially ordered (24” was standard length). Top flat stamped at the breech “44 W.C.F.” (.44-40). Full length magazine tube. Brilliant overall with 98% original bright, high polish early style blue. Hammer and lever with much of the original case hardening. Stock and forend with nearly all the original finish showing only the slightest use. Screws in excellent to near mint condition with most of the blue. Bright bore with very sharp rifling. Original Winchester elevator rear and nickel blade front sight. With Factory letter stating it was shipped as it is (28” octagon) from the factory on October 12th,1880. Truly outstanding and a very scarce example of "The Gun That Won The West".
