Scarce First Model Winchester 1873 Special Order Rifle .44 With Factory Letter 1878

Description:
This is a really nice gun that just came out of an old West Coast collection. Receiver retains 70% original blued finish overall. The barrel retains 40% scattered blue overall. All markings are clear. 24 1/4 inch octagon barrel. Half magazine (which in the letter is listed as a "short magazine"). Plain trigger. Wood appears to have been lightly sanded a long time ago and is no longer proud to the metal. Bore is fine with sharp rifling throughout. Thumb print dust cover. Trap in butt is empty. Front sight blade is still nice and sharp. Most of the 1st model 1873 Winchester rifles saw heavy use and wear, so to find one that is sharp and with finish still left is difficult at best! According to the factory letter, which is dated May 14, 2025, this gun was received in the warehouse on June 24, 1878. Serial number is 29073

We do not put any ammo in it or disassemble to check internal parts. We will sometimes take off barrels or stocks in an attempt to prevent damage in shipping.
