SCARCE WINCHESTER MODEL 1873 SHORT RIFLE IN 44 WCF

Description:
Desirable 20 inch octagon barrel chambered in 44 WCF caliber with a good bore that has shine and visible rifling and scattered light roughness throughout. Sights include a blade front and a sporting rear. Barrel and full length magazine tube are a smooth brown patina with good clear markings. Receiver is about the same color with some scattered patches of light pitting. The left side of the receiver has been lightly marked "TX1653953" with an electro-pencil. Hammer and lever are a darker brown color. Walnut stock is in fine condition showing some light wear and handling mars from life on the wild frontier. Rifle style crescent buttplate. Special order 20 inch short rifles are much more scarce than 20 inch carbines. It has the look of one that was used on the western frontier 130 plus years ago. Factory letter confirms the caliber and barrel length and that it was made in 1891.
