SPECIAL ORDER Winchester Model 1873 Rifle 44 WCF with Cody Email Provenance
Description: Winchester Model 1873 rifle in caliber 44 WCF aka 44-40. As noted in the Cody email sheet, this rifle was ordered with a 30" round barrel 6" longer than standard, a single set trigger, and a case hardened frame. The full magazine, plain walnut stocks, and crescent butt with trap door butt plate are standard features, as well as the standard open sights. Cody email sheet will be provided to the buyer, and an official factory letter has been ordered, which will also be sent to the buyer after I receive it. Longer than standard round barrels are quite uncommon, especially in 44 caliber. CONDITION: Frame has silvered out with traces of the case hardening on the lower tang, behind the side plates, and in the protected area at the back of the receiver. Barrel and mag exhibit 5% original blue that has turned patina, mixing with gray and spotty staining. The action works properly, including the set trigger and half cock safety. Dust cover is tight with no slop. Bore is good with strong rifling, some scattered black powder fouling, a bit of frost, and still some darkness in the grooves after some cleaning - should still clean out more. Stocks are sound with no splits or cracks, no extra holes, never cleaned/sanded/refinished, just exhibiting normal usage marks expected of a firearm of this vintage. Mag tube is tight with no wobble. Original correct front sight (German silver blade without the locking screw) is present, as well as the original rear sight and elevator. No cleaning rods are present in the trap door of the butt. Barrel is marked "44 Cal" at the breech and has the correct two-line address on top. Brass cartridge lifter also has the "44 Cal" marking. Overall grades NRA Antique Very Good and is an uncommon configuration that should make a fun shooter while certainly gaining value as a collector's item. TERMS: Shipping to the Continental US States will be a flat $75 (due to size and weight of package) with insurance included. We are registered with the CA DOJ and will ship to California! No international sales, and no sales to Alaska or Hawaii. Antique so it can ship directly to you assuming your local laws allow it - sales to the 5 boroughs of NY City require an FFL only, NO EXCEPTIONS. 3 day non-firing inspection period; buyer pays return shipping. Payment by bank check, money order or personal check; all major credit cards are accepted with a 4% convenience fee added. Ships by UPS Ground with tracking. Always interested in Civil War items, as well as used long guns and used antique handguns so please contact me if you have anything for sale or trade. 315.251.4799 with questions or concerns.
