This is an 1888 estate gun. The owner says the original owner was a westerner and it was decorated by some sheriff or as was common by a Native American. The condition is typical of an old ranch gun. The finish has retained some very slight scattered blue but is mostly a soft blue brown patina. It is free of rust, but there are some little nicks surface nicks on the edges of the side plates and the octagon barrel. Surprisingly the magazine tube has about 70-75% of the original blue. The gun does have the often missing dust cover. It locks up tight and operates perfectly. The wood does show some modest use. There is a very small hairline crack on the forearm and the butt has a few small dings. The left side has what appears to be lightly stamped "JUDE". The right side, barely visible the 101 and the two fascinating western-style Sheriff's stars made of brass studs. The bore is slightly frosted but the groves and lands are quite visible, with some slight frost. It would certainly be a really fun shooter. What a story this 141-year cowboy icon could tell. An awesome find for a Winchester or Western collector. Modestly priced......Shipped....$1995.***
