WINCHESTER MODEL 1885 LOW WALL RIFLE CHAMBERED FOR 25-20 SS
Description:
The 28 inch No. 1 weight octagon barrel is marked “.25 WCF” and should not to be mistaken for 25-20 WCF. Winchester used the .25 WCF caliber marking to signify what became or is (now) known as .25-20 S.S. (Single Shot) caliber until 1895 when they introduced the .25-20 W.C.F. cartridge. The two are not interchangeable, and neither will allow the chambering of the other. Sights include a wind gauge globe front with spirit level, a filler in the rear dovetail and a Mid range vernier peep sight on the tang. Plain walnut forearm with matching straight grip buttstock fitted with a crescent rifle butt plate. Near excellent condition overall with the barrel showing 70% lightly freckled finish with some light pitting at the grip point. Very good bore has a few small patches of light pitting ahead of the chamber and is otherwise bright and shiny with strong rifling. The action shows 70% original case colors with a couple of patches of pitting on the right side. The stocks are solid and full fitting with very little wear and only light handling marks. Manufactured in 1892.
