1886 .45-70 TAKEDOWN, EXTRA LIGHTWEIGHT 22” BARREL RIFLE, #142XXX, MADE 1907
Description: 1886 .45-70 TAKEDOWN, EXTRA LIGHTWEIGHT 22” BARREL RIFLE, #142XXX, MADE 1907. A nice example that retains most of the lightly aged blue on the barrel and mag tube with only some light thinning at the muzzle and some gray just ahead of the receiver on the barrel top. Fitted with a flat top buckhorn rear sight with elevator bar intact and correct Lyman half-mood front sight in the factory base that was used on these extra lightweight rifles because the barrel toward the muzzle is too thin for a dovetail. The receiver shows some blue on the rear portion on both sides with the balance thinning/mixing gray-brown from age. The bolt retains exc. deep blue. Butt stock and forend generally excellent showing very light handling only. The Winchester embossed hard rubber butt plate appears to be a replacement. Tight takedown, tight action and excellent bore. A scarce and desirable 119 year-old 1886 in a great caliber.
