Winchester 1886 Half Octagonal/Half Round 38-56 Antique Case Color 1891
Description:
Guns by Sally-always the best for less. We are very proud to offer this fine example of Winchester's large framed 1886 lever gun. This one has the half octagonal/half round barrel feature, and is chambered in the very desirable 38-56 WCF. Made in the year of our Lord 1891, she will ship direct to your door. It also means that the receiver, forend cap, and butt plate were all factory case colored. There are muted shades still visible, easier to view in person than with photography. She is in good condition for being 128 years old. The blue has drifted to patina and has thinned in places, but it must have received some good care. The stampings are good, too. The walnut is good, with a minor loss at the upper tang, light to moderate handling marks elsewhere. The bore of the 26 inch barrel is also good, with plenty of shine and strong rifling. The smooth and crisp action works as designed, including the half cock safety. This model was the first John Browning design adopted by Winchester, and was a welcome replacement for the aging 1876 model. Built for strength to handle ever more powerful loads, the receiver was machined from a solid bar of steel weighing over 40 ounces. These big lever guns are always increasing in value, and only 160 thousand were made. If you have been looking for the right Winchester 1886 to collect or for investment, but want the added clout of a featured 38-56, then look no further.
