Winchester Model 1886 .45-70 - ANTIQUE, 28" OCTAGONAL BARREL, FULL MAG TUBE vintage firearms inc
Description: General Specs: Winchester, Year 1897, .45-70, 9lb, LOP 13 5/16" Serial Number: 112335 With rifles trending towards larger and more powerful cartridges, Browning designed the Model 1886 to take advantage of the newest chamberings. Regarded as one of the finest lever actions to be produced by Winchester, the Model 1886 was an instant success, being marketed from 1886 to 1935 with almost one hundred and sixty thousand produced. Offered in many different calibers the most popular being the .45-70. The standard 1886 rifle came with a round barrel that measured 26" in length; our example was a special order rifle with its 28" Octagonal barrel and full magazine holding an extra round. A nickel-silver front blade and a tang mounted Lyman peep sight adjustable for elevation give this classic rifle a very useful long sight base. Although manufactured in 1897, 85% of this gun's original Winchester vivid case color is still visible on the receiver, hammer, lever and both top and bottom tangs. Internally the action functions perfectly with a trigger that breaks crisply with no creep and a bore that shines like a mirror with perfect sharp rifling. This rifle is almost a century and a quarter old, and is still ready for use. Fit the crescent buttplate to your shoulder and like Theodore Roosevelt and countless other big game hunters, feel the thrill of holding the premier Winchester Lever gun, the 1886! Perfection!
