Winchester Model 1886 Rifle in 38-70 caliber, nice!
Description:
***SOLD*** All original, untouched, and very sharp looking Winchester 1886 38-70 caliber in a highly respectable condition.
S/N 98563 made in 1895 so qualifies as an antique.
Strong original bluing on the barrel and mag tube with a deep and even tone, showing a bit of wear along the top, but with no tendancy toward browning. Quite nice.
The case colors on the receiver, hammer, lever and crescent buttplate have taken on a mellow, even patina showing mostly a consistent mottled darker blue/grey overall, with some stronger colors in the protected areas.
There is no unsightly rust, flaking, nor browning and this rifle presents very well in hand.
26" Round barrel with a full length magazine tube. The bore looks good, fairly reflective with strong rifling throughout and some general light frost, but no pitting or other major issues.
The wood remains in excellent, solid shape, with no sanding, staining, gouges, nor cracks, etc. The finish is very nice and bright with some expected light handling and a few longitudinal creases on R side buttstock.
Sights consist of an ivory bead front, Winchester sporting rear, and a Lyman tang sight.
All mechanical functions are smooth, tight and crisp and appear to be working flawlessly.
This is an attractive and solid example that would make for a worthy placeholder in most any representative collection.
Please add $100 for expedited and fully insured shipping from Alaska.
