Special Order Winchester Model 1892 Rifle
Description: DESCRIPTION: Winchester Model 1892 rifle, caliber 38 WCF aka 38-40, with special order 26" full octagon barrel 2" longer than standard, full magazine and crescent butt, flat top rear sight with thumb print elevator and front sight marked PAT NOV 4 02, walnut stocks, serial # 661863, made 1912. Very few Model 1892 Winchesters were ordered with extra long barrels and most that were are found in the smaller calibers. Extra long barrels for any Winchester were discontinued after 1908 and stock on hand was fitted either on special order or until used up. CONDITION: Barrel and receiver retain 30% original thinning blue that has turned patina. Mag tube retains about 50% original plum blue. Fore end is missing a sliver at front cap on right side, otherwise sound with no splits, no cracks and no extra holes, shows typical usage dings. Butt stock shows typical nicks, scratches and dings with wear loss at toe and a small hole on the underside but it's too small to have been from a sling swivel so possibly it was from a brass tack? No splits or cracks. Neither stock has been sanded or refinished. Mag tube is slightly loose in dovetail. Butter-smooth action with strong hammer spring and properly functioning half cock safety. Very good bore with sharp rifling and just very light scattered pitting, no rings, no bulges, no deep pits; should be a great shooter upon inspection by a competent gunsmith. Grades NRA Antique Very Good and will make a great addition to your Winchester collection. TERMS: No international sales. Must ship to FFL or C&R license holder.
