VERY FINE SPECIAL ORDER LATE PRODUCTION 1892 SADDLE RING CARBINE, .38-40, 2/3 MAG, SHOTGUN BUTT MADE 1923
Description: VERY FINE CONDITION SPECIAL ORDER LATE PRODUCTION 1892 SADDLE RING CARBINE, .38-40, 2/3 MAGAZINE AND SHOTGUN BUTT, #921XXX, MADE 1923. Special order 1892 carbines are rare and this one is particularly so. The 2/3 length magazine was seldom ordered and matched with a shotgun butt plate is very unusual. Interestingly, this carbine was made about the time the Model 53 rifle was introduced in 1924 which had a similar butt plate. One like, this, but full nickel plated, made in 1919 is pictured in the Winchester Handbook by George Madis. This carbine has excellent wood overall with only a very small nick or notch in the stock comb just behind the upper tang- minor. The butt stock has the correct fluted comb (the one in the Madis book has the same) and smooth steel butt plate. The receiver is fitted with the correct sling ring and staple. The receiver shows excellent bright blue on the bolt and left side with the right side and bottom showing some typical 1920s flaking/brown mixing with the blue usually found on this vintage receivers. The upper tang retains bright blue. The barrel and mag show fine deep blue, correct carbine ladder sight, exc. barrel and tang markings. Tight action and best of all, the bore is minty bright. A very unusual special order, big caliber saddle ring carbine.
