Description: 1897 m LETTERED, SEMI-DELUXE Winchester 1894 Rifle Antique ½ Octagon Barrel Specialty Gun that Doesn’t Letter as Leaving Factory! Here we present an Antique Special Order Winchester Semi-Deluxe Model 1894 Lever Action Rifle with a Factory Letter, made in 1897 in New Haven, Connecticut. This letter is interesting for the reason that there is no shipping date listed in the Winchester records. In a follow up letter, 11 days after the first (standard) letter was sent, a representative from the Buffalo Bill Historical Center responds with several possibilities as to how this may have occurred, but that, ultimately, there is no way to tell. The letter is also of interest as it confirms the configuration you see this rifle in at present, with its half-octagonal (half-round) barrel, 2/3 length magazine tube, checkered pistol grip, and plain trigger. However, it does list the caliber as .30. It seems possible that if this rifle was used as a salesman example or had some other factory purpose that it was eventually re-barreled. The overall condition is fine. Original blued finish. Excellent action. Bright, sharply rifled bore. Fine, solid stock, with a sharply checkered wrist and fore end. This is a fantastic rifle with many of the most desirable features in a special order but still “working” Winchester Model 1894 rifle! Own the original!
