SCARCE Winchester Model 1894 SPRUCE GUN 30WCF Saddle Ring Carbine Government Marked FREE SHIPPING
Description: In 1917-18 the Army Signal Corp ordered a quantity of 1800 30-30 Model 1894 Winchester Saddle Ring Carbines for the Spruce Battalion, part of the Army Signal Corp. This battalion was charged with guarding the spruce forests in the Northwest. Spruce was the major structural component in WWI aircraft. They fall in the serial range from 839,000 to 843,000. This Winchester is one of those "Spruce Guns" as they are known by collectors, serial number 842,560, having the "US" and "Flaming Bomb" markings on the top of the receiver at the breech. In all other respects, it is a standard Winchester Model 1894 saddle ring carbine, having the 20" round nickel steel barrel with post front sight, full magazine with 2 barrel bands, carbine style butt stock and butt plate, long fore end stock, ladder style rear sight, and saddle ring that screws into the left side of the receiver. Typical of the Winchesters of this time period, the receiver blue all has flaked away, leaving traces of color around the saddle ring and otherwise silver. The barrel has 70% fine aged blue at the back half. The front portion of the barrel, along with the mag tube, has spotty finish from wear and retain about 40% aged blue. The stocks show typical nicks and dings but are free of splits and cracks, have never been sanded or refinished, and don't have any extra holes either. The action is tight and crisp with a properly working half cock safety. The bore is excellent with sharp lands, no frosting, mostly bright, no pitting and no bulges. Overall this Winchester would grade NRA Modern Very Good and is a highly desirable collector's item. Two of these Spruce Guns just sold in the Rock Island for close to $3,000 each so my price is more than fair. Reasonable offers are welcomed and will be considered. Don't miss out on a great piece of Winchester history! TERMS: No international sales. Payment must be received within 7 days of purchase. Please do not send payment by any method requiring a signature as this will delay your shipment. I work a full time job so guns and ammo are a part time thing. Please be patient if I don't respond immediately to a text or phone call as I don't have a brick and mortar gun shop. Must ship to FFL or C&R license holder (sales within New York State require FFL only). Please be aware of what is legal in your state and comply with the law. 3 day non-firing inspection and sold as a collector item only. Not warranted safe to fire until checked out by a competent gunsmith. Buyer pays return shipping. Payment by bank check, personal check or money order. All major credit cards accepted with 4% convenience fee added. Layaway available with 25% down and equal payments for 90 days maximum. Ships by UPS Ground with tracking and insurance included.
