PRE-WAR RARITY: MODEL 64 IN .219 ZIPPER CALIBER, #1111XXX, MADE 1936. According to The Winchester Handbook by George Madis, from the existing records, from 1933 (the year the M-64 was introduced) to 1942 only 18,400 of this model were made and of those only 861 were in .219 Zipper! The Model 64 was introduced in the worst year of the Great Depression and sales were very limited. In 1941 the .219 Zipper chambering was dropped. These are now some of the least produced and hardest to locate Winchesters ever produced. This example shows about all the deep factory blue on the 26” barrel and magazine. Barrels in .219 Zipper were two inches longer than the other calibers. The ramped front sight also retains the hood. The receiver shows good blue that is evenly “flaking”/mixing brown (but not worn to gray or silver) which is typical for this vintage Winchester receiver. Blue on the bolt is excellent. Excellent stock and forend with tight wood to metal fit. Original checkered steel butt plate, exc. screws, bright exc. bore. The forend cap is also shows a little blue but has the usual flakey brown color. Few Winchester collections have one of these!
