Pre 64 Winchester Model 70 300 H&H Magnum Pristine!
Description:
Stunning example of a fairly early post war Winchester 70 in 300 H&H Magnum. S/N 181*** with matching bolt made 1951. This rifle is in near mint condition showing 98-99% overall Blue and Varnish. The 26" barrel has an excellent bore and all mechanical functions are equally excellent. There are factory drill holes for scope mounting both front and rear of the receiver top. None of the Pre War 300 Mags nor most of the early post-war 300 Mags were drilled on the rear bridge until the end of 1950, but virtually ALL were drilled by 1951, the year of this rifle. I have further confirmed this by examining the placement and precision of the holes along with noting factory blue present in the inner threads. This is really an attractive rifle, in a fantastic caliber. After 95 years and running, many shooters (myself included) still consider the 300 H&H to be the very best 300 Mag of all. With competition accuracy, a slightly softer report and recoil, slightly slower speed for better brush busting and killing game, and a gradual shouldered case profile most condusive to reliable feeding, they have simply never been improved upon. What a beauty this one is!
