Pre War/Transition Winchester Model 70 Super Grade 375 H&H Magnum. Excellent. VERY scarce configuration!
Description: This is a very rare configured and very high condition 375 H&H SG. S/N 56918 It is a 1946 gun but assembled of 100% carryover pre WWII components other than the unique "clam shell" or "rabbit's foot" safety lever which were used for only a brief period between 1946-1948. The pre war, clover tang receiver has the usual small matted area on top of rear bridge which remains undrilled. These earlier rifles normally carry a significant premium over the also scarce but later made post war 375 H&H SGs. However, in the interest of full disclosure, I will mention that upon close inspection of the barrel channel, there are some contact points that have received a treatment of epoxy bedding, specifically in the recoil lug and forearm hold down lug areas. This is not visible externally, and the stock fits perfectly to the barrelled action with no issues or binding whatsoever, and there is no undergap at forend tip. While perhaps practical or even accuracy enhancing, this is not typically desired by very strict collectors, even though the work is minimal and very well executed compared to most botched bedding attempts. With that said, I am offering this one at a somewhat reduced price from that which it would otherwise warrant. This is a truly beautiful, precision made, and highly desirable rifle.
