PRE WAR Winchester Model 70 22 Hornet 4 digit S/N Superb!

Description:
Extraordinarily sharp EARLY and ULTRA scarce Pre War Model 70 22 Hornet with 4 digit S/N!! This beautiful rifle was made in 1937. It remains in wonderful condition throughout, unmolested and UNDRILLED on its matted rear bridge, with a chamber confirmed to be the original 22 hornet and not reamed to K or some other value decimating caliber. Blue is 98% over the majority with more wear showing in the usual areas such as floor plate margins and heel of buttplate. There is a bit of minor freckling at left rear shoulder of receiver but overall just great, and NOTHING compares to the beautiful combination of rust blued barrels and polished carbonum blued receivers of these early 70 rifles! The wood is also special with a nice color and grain pattern, along with the very fine line checkering of the first rifles. ( about 21 l.p.i.) There is a minor impression under the factory receiver sight holes where someone along the way must have had a later version Lyman 48 WJS sight in use and a small dibit near one of the checkering panels, but that is about the only marks whatsoever. I would have to concede the liklihood of a rub or 2 of oil over the last 84 years, but that gorgeous light honey color you see coming from the wood itself is not uncommon to these early Pre Wars and it radiates through the finish with a certain glow that has always been my personal favorite of the subtle wood color variations we see in Model 70s. Overall, an outstanding find and one which would prove quite difficult to improve upon!
