WINCHESTER PRE-64 MODEL 70 "TRANSITIONAL MODEL" .270 W.C.F. MADE in 1948
SALE PENDING
Description:
Winchester Model 70 "Transitional Model" made in 1948 chambered in .270 W.C.F. The Transitional model 70s were built for only about 2 years soon after WW II. They used the cloverleaf receiver and they changed the safety lever to be much more Scope friendly. Because of this, receivers were drilled and tapped to facilitate mounting a rifle scope. The barrel is straight and true and has an excellent bore. Most transitional models retained the full oval grip that was later made more simple to make them easier to produce. This one has a Lyman 57 WJS receiver sight that requires no alteration to the stock and is fully adjustable. The front sight is original to the rifle. The bolt is numbered to the receiver. The stock has the low comb and has not been shortened and has the original checkered steel buttplate. There is evidence of a professional re-blue in the rifle's past. There are some dings and scratches in the stock that are shown in the pictures. This one has been in the field and has probably taken its share of deer and elk.
I purchased this one in the 1990s from Gallenson's in Salt Lake City, Utah. I bought it to hunt deer in southern Utah. My eyes were much sharper then and the receiver mounted peep sight worked out great. I love the quality of the transitional model. I have taken 2 deer with this one.
If you are looking for a shooter 270 in a classic, vintage rifle, this may be the one for you. It would also work great as the basis for a new custom build. Please go through the pictures and contact me with questions. Thanks for looking!
