The 458 Win Mag or African is one of the most, if not the most, desirable of all Model 70's. Although this model was offered from 1956 through the end of 1963 only 1226 African models were produced. The likely cause of the low numbers was cost. The 458 was more than double the cost, $305 of all Model 70's being offered at the time. Exceptions would be the 300 H&H $200 and the Hwt Target Models offered in 243 and 30-06 costing $185. This is a very nice looking rifle. The wood is about perfect and the action and bore is as new. I will let you judge the condition of the rust blue finish by looking at the high-resolution pictures i have taken. The pictures show some light flaking of the blue on the front of the barrel with some very fine pitting. This is not down to the bare metal, still rust blue coverage, and the balance of the blue finish is about perfect. Although this is noticeable it takes very little away from the beauty of this rifle.
