U.S. Marked Winchester Model 1885 Low Wall Winder Musket .22 short
Description:
U.S. Marked Winchester Model 1885 Low Wall Winder Musket, 22 Short, Was manufactured in 1918 and has a 28” round barrel straight grip walnut butt stock & forend that has the grasp grove that is typical of these rifle stocks. There are also sling swivels mounted on the bottom. The correct Lyman receiver sight is present and in good condition.
Condition:
This rifle has a mostly bright very good bore showing a little scattered mild oxidation and strong rifling throughout. The barrel of this rifle retains about 80% original blue showing some areas toning to gunmetal gray at the muzzle, slight thinning under bright light and some fine surface oxidation. The action retains a similar amount of bright blue showing some light dings and handling marks along the sides. The breechblock retains some smoky remnants of case-hardening and all markings remain intact and strong, the frame stamped with “US / (Flaming Bomb)” behind the hammer. The smooth walnut buttstock and full-length forend remain in very fine condition retaining a healthy amount of original oil finish and maintaining a nice honest appearance with just some scattered light dings, a couple of very thin minor drying cracks along the buttstock and excellent fit. The Lyman receiver sight is missing one of its mounting screws and aperture insert, along with the correct & proper tall plain blade front.
