1881 WINCHESTER-HOTCHKISS 1st Model Bolt Action Saddle Ring CARBINE Antique Bolt Action .45-70 GOVT Carbine Made circa 1881
Description: 1881 WINCHESTER-HOTCHKISS 1st Model Bolt Action Saddle Ring CARBINE Antique Bolt Action .45-70 GOVT Carbine Made circa 1881 Here we present an antique Winchester-Hotchkiss Bolt Action Rifle in .45-70 GOVT, manufactured circa 1881 in New Haven, Connecticut. The Winchester-Hotchkiss rifle was first conceived by Benjamin B. Hotchkiss in 1875 and by 1877 he had four US patents on the design which was sold to the Winchester company in early 1877. This was Winchester’s first bolt action rifle and their first firearm with a magazine fed from the butt stock. It was also the first repeating centerfire bolt action rifle used by any military. It was marketed for military applications as well as a hunting rifle, but it would not see widespread use in the US military. It is equipped with a pinned blade front sight and a folding ladder rear sight graduated to 1,000 yards. It has a smooth straight grip stock with a single barrel band and a carbine style buttplate. The overall condition is good. Weathering and gray patina throughout. Excellent action. Bright bore with slight frosting. This example sports a solid walnut stock which shows lots of use. As is common with these rifles, there are some cracks in the stock on either side of the rear of the receiver due to recoil. The cracks are stable. A very neat saddle ring carbine illustrative of the progression of firearms technology at the end of the 19th Century! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 24 inches. Caliber: .45-70 Government Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $2885 #215288 SOLD Antique: Yes |
