Description: .45-70 Antique WINCHESTER 1886 Lever Action Rifle .45-70 GOVT Manufactured in 1895 Here we present an antique Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action Rifle, made in 1895 in New Haven, Connecticut. The 1886 was a collaboration between John Moses Browning and his brother, Matthew Sandifer Browning, to build a big game rifle to replace the Model 1876. This was Browning’s first repeating rifle design adopted by Winchester, and the design even gained the endorsement of Theodore Roosevelt, formerly a staunch proselyte of the 1876. This rifle features a 26-inch octagonal barrel chambered for highly desirable .45-70 WCF. The top of the barrel is marked “MANUFACTURED BY THE/WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A.” The breech is marked “.45-70”. The tang is marked “MODEL 1886”. The overall condition is near fine. The blue finish on the barrel & magazine is about 40%. Nickel plate finish on the fore end cap and receiver about 90%. The markings are clear and legible. The stock is in great shape. The bore is very good, semi-bright with strong rifling.
