#4600 Winchester 1866 OBFMCB, 44RF, late 3rd variation in the 131XXX range (1874).
Description: #4600 Winchester 1866 OBFMCB, 44RF, late 3rd variation in the 131XXX range (1874). Very nice totally virgin and uncleaned rifle that walked in to the Antique Arms Show at the old Sahara Casino back in the late 1980s. The brass has a build-up of aged vertigris and has no serious dings or repairs of mention, the barrel metal is Fine with a deep plum bluish-brown patina and a somewhat weak standard Winchester Repeating Arms address. VG+ crisp barrel edges, factory sling swivels (with a small shreads of an old sling remaining), brass nosecap and buttplate …and after 140+ years it still has cleaning rods in the butt!!!. Correct Henry style rear sight, early style “butterfly” lever latch, screwed in magazine plug, and correct ‘66 loop lever. The action is smooth and working fine, the bore is better-than-average but does have darkness in the grooves, scattered leading, and some minor pitting. Still, if one chooses to clean the bore, it should clean to at least a 6-7 and that’s not bad for a ’66 (….not that anyone is going to be out in the back yard burning up a $2500++ box or two of 44-Henry Rimfire cartridges!) The Model 1866 rifles are far more scarce than the carbines (supposidly about a 5 to 1 ratio of carbines to rifles were manufactured) and this is a really, REALLY decent totally uncleaned survivor and very desirable octagon barreled rifle. There are lots of pictures of this neat old gun, so if they all do not load up, be sure to e-mail me and I’ll forward them along to you. VG+ as described. $9,950 SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Antique: Yes |
