#4931 Winchester 1885 Hi-Wall, serial range 57xxx (1892), No.3x28”x32/40
Description:
#4931 Winchester 1885 Hi-Wall, serial range 57xxx (1892), No.3x28”x32/40 with about a “6+ to 7” bore on a scale of 10 and a smooth tight action, and having a post style tang peep sight and factory barrel plug. What this gun lacks most is exterior condition. Basically it looks to be an old ranch gun that was not carefully handled and cared for like a target rifle (which most 32/40 Hi-Walls seemed to have been used for). This looks like a gun that was just stuck out in the woodshed and grabbed on the way out to shoot a deer for next weeks meal ..and then placed back in the woodshed without wiping down the exterior, but simply pushing a patch through the bore. The buttstock has a plug repair to a large split, and while it isn’t all THAT bad of a repair, it could be made much better with a better refinish; the forearm is VG. It has overall light pitting on the barrel, being heavier toward the muzzle, and a crustiness to the patina that has mixed with what looks to be a VERY old reblue. Still looks like it has some good years left as a shooter, but as a collector piece, it will certainly need some cosmetic upgrading. About Good/VG $1295
