• 1873 Winchester Saddle Ring Carbine, 16" barrel which makes it a rare "Trapper" or "Baby Carbine" most of which you'll see are 92's or 94's. 
• The 73' Trappers are more rare and desirable, and of all the 73' trappers, about 90% are 15" barrels, making this one even more scarce.
• Chambered in .44 W.C.F.
• This one is in very good, almost excellent condition which you don't often see on these since they were typically used hard in the field and not maintained well.
• The barrel and magazine tube retain about 75% blue and the receiver has about 15% blue in protected areas with a mottled brown to grey patina on the remainder.
• The wood has typical dents and ding from use, but no cracks or major chips, and the wood fits the metal very well. 
• The barrel has the correct forward location of the barrel address, which these trappers had since the forend is 1" shorter than a standard carbine.
• The barrel and receiver are both marked with the "oval, WP" proof stamp that would have been applied when the gun was "Returned and Repaired" in 1909
• The bore is very good, with bright shiny lands and grooves with one small blackpowder ring about half way down the bore.
• The action is tight and functions perfecly, with the dust cover not being overly loose.
• The buttstock has the 3 piece Winchester cleaning rod behind the trap door.
• The Cody letter shows the gun being shipped from the warehouse in August, 1908
• The records show that the gun was returned to Winchester nine months later (possibly to convert it into the 16" Trapper configuration, though the letter doesn't specify the work that was done) then shipped in March 1910 to Markt and Schaefer Co. of NY
