Antique 1886 Winchester... 45-90 Caliber. Octagon Barrel. Good Bore. Perfect Mechanics. Cody Work Sheet All Correct. Priced Right...
Description:
SOLD...REDUCED PRICE...Decent and honest antique 1886 Winchester 45-90 caliber. Here is a decent looking antique 1886 Winchester in the very sought after caliber 45-90.. Cody work sheet included all correct.. S/N 80201 and was made in 1893. Has the standard 26”octagon barrel, crescent rifle butt plate, full mag. Very sought after configuration and every body wants one right !!!!! The bore is good with strong rifling and some minor common black powder roughness but no big craters, rings or bulges... Might still clean up a little better as the patches were still coming out dirty and gray from leading and fouling.. The gun functions perfectly and is smooth as silk... Both hammer notches are correct and positive. Feeds, fires and ejects perfectly. No bulged or split cases and no backed out primers. Perfect head space. It shoots just fine with no issues. The over all gun is a pretty smooth brown patina with old staining surface crud but never cleaned on or messed with. A couple very small specks of light pitting on the right side of the barrel in front of the end cap. Absolutely does not detract from the gun at all. The receiver has just traces of case color pattern in good lighting and the balance has “silvered out”.. The front sight is a later replacement Marbles # 2 and the rear sight is the original buck horn style with a odd looking elevator. {see photo}... The wood is good with no splits or cracks. Forearm fits tight and proud or even with the metal. Nothing sanded or cleaned on or undersized at all.. The butt stock fits proud or even with the metal also and nothing sanded on or messed with that I can see. Maybe a little shrinkage at the rear of the lower tang but that is about it. No splits or cracks. Wood even fits very good at the toe curl as most of these ole Winchesters are very worn or chipped out in this area. The screw heads for the most part are still sharp and clean and nothing burred up or abused. There is one spot on the lower tang by the S/N that some nimrod filed on the upper tang stock screw end at one point in it's life.{see photo} WHY, WHY, WHY I ask this so many times.. It is what it is. Not real deep but it is there.. Other than that, this is a nice looking ole 86 in the perfect caliber and configuration at a reasonable price from what I see selling and on the market today. If you have always wanted one in this caliber but did not want to pay the premium price they bring, then this is the gun for you. I have it priced with the file mark in mind that keeps this gun in the right price range for the 45-90's.... Cody work sheet is included. $50 insured shipping. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos.
