HIGH CONDITION SPECIAL ORDER 1894 .32-40 TAKEDOWN, 1/2 MAG, NICKEL STEEL BARREL, #304XXX, MADE 1906
Description: HIGH CONDITION SPECIAL ORDER 1894 .32-40 TAKEDOWN, ROUND BARREL/HALF MAGAZINE, NICKEL STEEL BARREL, #304XXX, MADE 1906. This is a very unusual 1894 that, aside from the takedown and half magazine, has a "NICKEL STEEL" marked barrel. Typically, during this time, only the "smokeless" cartridges like .25-35, .30 WCF and .32 WS had nickel steel barrels intended to be shot with jacketed bullets. The .32-40 and .38-55 were usually loaded with lead bullets and Winchester used non-nickel steel barrels on these calibers unless special ordered with nickel steel, like this one. The receivewr shows fine deep original blue overall with some light thinning toward the front of the receiver sides, on the receiver ring and edges. The barrel and short magazine show deep blue and even the takedown ring and forend cap show good blue. Excellent walnut stock and forend with tight wood to metal fit and a little extra grain as was typical for special ordered rifles. Excellent screw heads, tight action with strong safety half-cock, still some case color on the lever sides and hammer. Has early style "screw-eye" sling swivel studs (for hook-eye swivels popular at the time) correctly placed in the stock and forend cap. Has full buckhorn rear sight with elevator bar intact and Winchester blade front sight along with a Lyman tang sight with eye disc (and no extra holes in the tang underneath). Best of all, the bore is minty bright! Unusual rifle in any condition, this is a fine one and especially desirable and rare with nickel steel barrel. SOLD Rifle Caliber: .32-40 Winchester Manufacturer: WINCHESTER Serial Number: 304XXX Barrel Length: 26 Condition: EXCELLENT Bore Condition: EXCELLENT |
