SPECIAL ORDER VERY LATE PRODUCTION SEMI-DELUXE 1886 EXTRA LIGHTWEIGHT RIFLE IN .33 WCF, SHIPPED 1921
Description: SPECIAL ORDER VERY LATE PRODUCTION SEMI-DELUXE 1886 EXTRA LIGHTWEIGHT RIFLE IN .33 WCF CALIBER, #156198, FACTORY LETTER SHOWS SHIPPED JUNE 5, 1921. According to the Winchester Handbook by George Madis, serial number 156599 was the highest number produced in standard production and was shipped December 8, 1920. Madis also states that parts were on hand after this and in the final parts clean-up numbers reached 159994 with the last 1886s being assembled in 1932 with a few actually being sold in 1936. So, this is one of the last of the standard production non-parts clean-up rifles. Interestingly, Madis shows only 391 1886s produced in 1921. The factory letter on this one only states "Shipped from warehouse on June 5, 1921. Order number 7891-14." There is no other info in the letter. This rifle may be one of the very last pistol gripped and checkered 1886s ever made as most were standard models. Excellent overall with the receiver retaining bright blue overall with only gray on the lower right side of the receiver and some thinning to the blue on the bottom of the receiver. The upper tang, receiver ring, bolt etc. retain bright blue as does the barrel and short magazine. Even the forend cap shows fine blue. The barrel is fitted with a factory buckhorn rear sight with elevator bar intact and Lyman "Jack Sight" (half moon with ivory bead) front sight in correct base. Stock and forend are excellent showing almost no handling. Checkering on the pistol grip and forend is fine and distinct. Correct Winchester embossed hard rubber pistol grip cap and butt plate are excellent. Screw heads appear unturned, tight wood to metal fit. Tight action and minty bright bore. A great 102 year old 1886! SOLD Manufacturer: WINCHESTER Model: 1886 EXTRA LIGHT DLX Serial Number: 156198 Barrel Length: 24 Condition: EXCELLENT Bore Condition: EXCELLENT |
