Winchester 1873

special order, very fine, high condition
Description: ( On Hold , Mike H ) This is a Winchester Model 1873, first model, made in 1878, configuration verified by 2 Museum letters. The rifle has a 24" round barrel with a short, or button magazine. It is a late first model, serial no. 29350, and has the exposed trigger pin and safety block, which I believe was only seen in the last few thosand early models. This rifle remains in very high, very fine original condition. Chambered in 44 WCF of course. Pictures were taken in outdoor, somewhat harsher lighting than indoors, and so, indoors and in your hands this rifle looks even nicer. The action is crisp and positive, working perfectly. The lettering is sharp and crisp. Most of the original blueing remains with shine, some freckling, some blue flaking on the fore end cap, under the receiver, soft patina and light carry wear. The case colors on the lever , hammer and buttplate have faded, and are turning to a muted blend of colors and patina, with just a hint of brighter color in a few spots. The bore is very nice with shine, sharp lands and grooves, with some light scattered pitting a couple inches from the muzzle - the majority of the bore is excellent - I would rate it about an 8 overall. The wood on the rifle is fantastic, solid, tight perfectly fitting, very few light marks. The majority of the original finish remains with just a bit of oil staining where it meets the receiver, slight wood grain is seen in the finish, and where it meets steel it is just barely proud or flush. Original cleaning rods in the butt. This is a fine rifle, and it would be difficult to find another late first model in this configuration, in this condition. ***** This is an antique, and can ship directly to the buyer in MOST places, some, N.J. and others may require an FFL transfer.
