This Winchester model 1873 is chambered in 44-40, aka 44WCF caliber. This is a shooter grade antique, and is priced accordingly. Round barrel is about 22" in length. The bore is dark and fairly evenly pitted with strong rifling. A photo of a recovered bullet shows the rifling engraving clearly. Notwithstanding the dark bore, I shot a 4" group off hand at about 40 yards with 200 grain lead cast bullets, which is about as well as I can shoot any rifle with buckhorn sights. Shoots well with 22 grains of Reloader 7 and a CCI magnum pistol primer and Starline brass. It also shoots well with black powder loads, which is what was in use when it was produced. But the bore clean-up afterwards is quite a chore. This rifle has been fully cleaned and lubed and is ready to use. Plenty of marks and scratches from its 132 years of service. Showing a mostly even patina over all metal surfaces. The stocks are tight and solid. The photos will tell the rest of the story. There are no missing parts or screws, and this rifle shoots and functions properly. Because this is a true antique, it is being sold "as is" and is not returnable, and I can ship it directly to you with proof of (your) age. If California, I will only ship to an FFL. Feel free to ask any questions. Insured USPS shipping is $50 to CONUS.
