About Us: I have been collecting firearms for over 40 years. My interests are Winchester rifles in models 1892 and 1894 especially with shorter than standard barrels. I have also written four books on Newton rifles and have interest in all models of those rifles. newtonrifles
Winchester 1873 Saddle Ring Carbine, SRC, 15" barrel, half magazine, 44-40,
non original bayonet
Description: This is a Winchester Model 1873 Saddle Ring Carbine #117026 with a 15 inch barrel, half magazine in caliber 44-40 shipped in 1883. The carbine has a factory letter which shows an order number of 2384. This carbine was shipped with the same order number as carbine #116397 which is shown on page 499 of Jim Gordon’s book Winchester’s New Model of 1873. THIS ANGULAR BAYONET IS NOT ORIGINAL TO THIS CARBINE. Mr. Gordon mentions that these half magazine carbines could be equipped with an angular bayonet so I added the bayonet to this carbine. The metal is a brown patina. The stock and forearm have the normal handling marks you might expect with a carbine of this age. A cross formed from brass tack has been added to the stock and a letter “R” is visible just in front of the cross. An aged piece of rawhide has been attached to the saddle ring and I have l left that in place as well. The bore is fair with some pitting and the rifling is still visible. The action works well and there is a trapdoor in the butt. This is no an antique so no FFL is needed or clearance as a short barreled firearm. The buyer pays shipping and insurance. SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: Winchester Model: 1873 Caliber Info: 44-40 Metal Condition: fair Wood Condition: fair, considering age Bore Condition: fair Barrels: 15 inch Barrel Type: round Butt Pad: with a trapdoor Finish: brown patina Manufacture Date: 1883 |
