Description:
The Winchester Model 1886 was another fantastic design from the mind of the prolific firearms designer John Moses Browning. The design itself incorporated falling locking bars into a lever action rifle to be able to withstand the most powerful black powder cartridges available and eventually even smokeless cartridges with the addition of nickel steel barrels. The 1886 was advanced enough in its design that very little was changed when it was redesigned into the Model 71 in 1935. This used example of a 1891 production rifle chambered in the uncommon 40-65 cartridge is in good overall condition, with moderate wear on the metal parts, most of the original finish on the barrel and no major faults in the wood. Upon inspection, it would appear that the locking bars may be somewhat worn, so it is always suggested to check headspace on guns of this age.
