Winchester Model 1886 40-70 W.C.F. rifle. Rare antique.
SALE PENDING
Description:
***SOLD*** Solid and all original Winchester 1886 Rifle in rare 40-70 W.C.F. caliber. (only 862 made)
S/N 101067 made in 1895.
26" Octagon barrel with vg-excellent reflective bore showing pronounced rifling throughout. Full length magazine tube.
Very strong original bluing on the barrel and mag tube with no significant wear nor tendancy toward browning.
The case colors on receiver, crescent buttplate, lever, and nose cap have largely faded except in the protected areas, but again, no ugly browning or excessive corrosion/ flaking. Most have taken on a consistent and pleasing light blue/grey patina.
Much of the original wood finish remains as well, but there are numerous moderate dings and mars from active use, especially on the buttstock. There are no visible structural cracks anywhere.
Original sights consist of a dovetailed, beaded front with the tiny bead insert missing but looks normal and functional from the rear. The rear sight is the typical Winchester sporting style with stepped elevator.
All mechanical functions are smooth, crisp and proper. Should make for a great collectible shooter!
Comes complete with a copy of the original Cody Museum letter.
