Winchester Model 1894 Saddle Ring Carbine Antique w/Tool
Description: Winchester Model 1894 Saddle Ring Carbine with a Pre-1898 Antique Serial Number in the 35,000 range. Standard early carbine in 30 WCF, 20" round barrel, full magazine, semi-crescent carbine buttplate, ladder rear sight (early 2 to 9 graduated), early Walnut Stocks (not gumwood), Early German silver front blade post sight, and saddle ring. These early production carbines are very difficult to find in any condition which is what makes this one so exceptional. The receiver has over 90% original blue with wear confined mainly to the edges and high spots while the barrel and magazine tube are 98% original blue. The lever and hammer still show much of their original case colors while there is still nitre blue remaining on the loading port as well as some left towards the front of the extractor. The wood is Excellent with no chips, cracks, or repairs. Wood to metal fit is excellent and slightly proud overall with a tiny bit of natural shrinkage near the top toe on the right side at the buttplate. Early markings include the 3 lines on the upper tang with John Browning's August 21, 1894 patent date. The barrel is marked Nickel Steel Especially For Smokeless Powder just below the rear sight. Winchester had just started to mark their nickel steel barrels with this stamp in the 30,000 ranges so it's nice to see it on such an early gun. The barrel address and caliber are in the correct 12 o'clock position on top with no proofs which is correct for 1890's production. Early Victorian Era hammer checkering with the dip in the middle of the border. The bore is Excellent and the action is nice and smooth. Comes with an original Model 1894 reloading tool for 30 WCF which were offered to customers who wished to reload their own spent shells with black powder. Found this one at the Kansas City show years ago and put it in my personal collection. In the past 10 years, I've only seen one Pre-1898 Antique 1894 SRC better than this one at the shows. That one was at Tulsa, it was 99% with a $16,000 price tag. It apparently sold. Winchester did not produce many carbines in the early years compared to sporting rifles and what little they did produce were used as tools as they were utility guns made to be carried on horseback. The attention to detail, the early polished heat blued frame, case colors, fit/finish and walnut stocks really set these early ones apart from the ones you see made in the 20th century. Antique Pre-1898. No FFL Required in accordance with Federal Law. However, some states and municipal laws may vary. NJ will require shipment to an FFL. No sales to Chicago, NYC, DC, or HI. Sorry, no international sales. $60.00 shipping. SOLD Antique: Yes Rifle Caliber: .30-30 Winchester Manufacturer: Winchester Model: 1894 SRC |
