Description:
#4759 Winchester 1885 “Hi-Wall”. 30”x38-55 with No.3 octagon barrel, serial range 30XXX so manufactured in 1889. It is fitted with an after market palm rest, standard trigger, standard barrel sights (Rocky Mountain front, low buckhorn sporting rear), and straight grip. The bore is about a 7-1/2 to 8 on a scale of 10 (VG++/fine) and the action is tight and solid. The exterior has a soft plum blue over most of the metal surface with just some very light freckle pitting on the receiver. It also looks like the barrel finish is the original blue, but the frame has been fogged over with a thinning reblue, which would be incorrect since this era of the Hi-Wall should be case-hardened, not blued. The wood is VG+ with the one exception that the palm rest mounting inlet could’ve been done a little better and the palm rest itself is a non-folding style. Other than that it has no mentionable deficits. Overall, a decent Hi-Wall in a very popular caliber. VG+ $2350
