Pre 64 Winchester Model 70 Super Grade 30-06 Scarce Transition era Shooter
Description:
Scarce transition era Super Grade Winchester Model 70 in the venerable old 30-'06. S/N 74*** with matching scribed bolt made in 1947. Other than the non original Pachmayr vented pad (standard 13 5/8" LOP to face), this is a pretty nice rifle overall. The original finishes are still in decent shape at about 85%+. The metal remains quite nice. The wood does show numerous light to moderate scrapes and dings, but nothing too distracting and no cracks anywhere. Has the unique combination of clover leaf tang and "clam shell" aka "rabbit's foot" safety limited almost exclusively to '46-'48 produced guns. All of the original Super Grade components are present and in very good shape: Great swivels, proper Redfield gold bead front sight, and nice correctly marked SG floorplate. These 3 components alone would cost $1,000 or more. There is the usual mark from a previously mounted Lyman 48WJS receiver sight as seen on so many from this era. Mechanics are perfect and the bore is mirror bright. These early Supers are wonderful to shoulder with their pancake cheekpiece and nice balance so this rifle would make someone a superb hunting gun. A remounting of the original style scalloped base Lyman 48WJS and perhaps an old english solid pad would really sharpen it back up too!
