RARE MODEL 54 20" CARBINE IN SCARCE .30WCF (.30-30) CALIBER, #30XXX, MADE 1930.
Description: RARE MODEL 54 20" CARBINE IN SCARCE .30WCF (.30-30) CALIBER, #30XXX, MADE THE FIRST FULL YEAR OF THE GREAT DEPRESSION IN 1930. Winchester's first modern bolt action rifle made famous for being the model that introduced the .270 WCF caliber, most today are found in .30-06 or .270. Any other caliber is considered scarce. The carbine version is also not encountered often. This one is unaltered and combines the rarity of a carbine with the rarity of caliber! It retains about all the blue with only some thinning and browning mixing on the bottom of the floor plate, trigger guard and minor toward the muzzle on the barrel. It is factory fitted with a Lyman receiver sight and blank in the barrel rear dovetail. It also retains the original checkered steel butt plate. Action is tight and the bore is bright, sharp and excellent. the stock has the distinctive fluted forend used on carbines and the walnut shows some better than standard grade walnut in the butt stock. This is the grandfather of all Winchester modern bolt action rifles that was replaced in the mid-1930s by the famed Model 70. The long neglected M-54 is now gaining a pretty good collector following. This is a fine condition, rare variation.
