Winchester Model 54 30-06 CA,C&R OK
Description:
A mechanically solid and attractive early Winchester, #64xx made in 1926, the second year of model 54 production. Beautiful, crisp, shiny, clean 24" barrel, great factory blueing, and a nicely refinished stock. Model 57 Lyman receiver sight. Looks like there was an early Lyman 48 installed at one time, and the stock "hole" has since been patched. 13-1/2" pull over a nice, soft Pachmayr pad, this should be a joy to shoot. Model 54 enthusiasts may have noticed something strange, and we took some time to figure it out ourselves: Barrel lettering style, bolt handle and safety shroud are transition period Model 70. Bolt body is very much a Model 54, and numbered to the receiver. Barrel date of 1946 clarified it for us...this rifle must have returned to the Factory for a barrel and bolt, and they used/modified what was available to them: Model 70 parts. The machine work is just too clean and tidy to have realistically taken place in any other fashion. If you have a better idea, let us know! Anyhow, its a cool rifle, and priced to move! CA OK,C&R OK.
