Description: ( On Hold - pending - M.F., SD ) This is a Winchester Model 1894, saddle ring carbine , chambered in the desirable 38-55 cal. The rifle is in very fine condition, "unmessed with" - hard to find them like this. The serial number is in the 79xxx range, an antique by Madis records - made in 1897. The Cody museum letter confirms the configuration, and places the date of manufacture a bit later. This carbine has excellent wood - solid, No chips at the wrist, nice, unsanded and square. The forearm is the same - just scatterd light impressions, marks and minor dings - less than you would expect from a Winchester carbine this old. The metal condition is nice also - smooth, original blueing fading to a silvery finish on the receiver, with strong blueing in protected areas. There are traces of case color on the lever and hammer. The barrel and mag tube have a little more fading and minor scratches and marks in front of the forearm, but remain very good. The barrel legend and caliber stamp are crisp. The carbine ladder sight is excellent with the earlier graduation marks. The bore is good, No rings, bulges, etc. It shows distinct rifling, semi shine , and scattered light black powder corrosion - a little more in the mid bore, a little better at the muzzle. The action feels great, positive, half and full hammer cock are crisp. Screw slots are nice, not marred. Please study the pics - the carbine has some normal use and wear, but it's tough to find them any nicer. ***** This is an "antique", and can ship directly in Most states (Not all). I am a FFL, and require that you can legally own a firearm to purchase - copy of your D.L. req'd. ***** Check or certified funds preferred, however I can accept a C.Card with a .03% fee. Shipping includes new heavy duty hard case and insurance. ***** Thank you
