DESIRABLE AND VERY EARLY FIRST YEAR PRODUCTION 1895 .405 WCF CALIBER RIFLE, #47XXX, MADE 1904
Description: DESIRABLE AND VERY EARLY FIRST YEAR PRODUCTION 1895 .405 WCF CALIBER RIFLE, #47XXX, MADE 1904. This rifle made in the first year of the great .405 introduction is in fine condition overall. The barrel retains most of the original blue that shows only minor wear and age. The receiver also shows fine blue with some edge wear and thinning, but good even coverage. Excellent bright blue in the bolt. The left side of the receiver is mounted with a long Lyman 21 receiver sight and because these sights typically protect the finish, the left side has strong blue. The barrel also has the original buckhorn rear sight with a Marble No.2 bead front sight. The wood is generally fine and shows normal light handling/hunting wear. There is some very small chipping from the upper tang/receiver juncture on each side that is minor. The butt stock has a period correct hook-eye swivel stud. and it appears a matching swivel was once mounted in the forearm screw hole. The action is tight and the bore is sharp and excellent. Pre-1905 Winchesters left the factory without the oval Winchester proof marks on the receiver top and barrel and very very few .405s were made and shipped before these proof stampings were utilized. This one is one of the very few .405 caliber rifles made early enough to not have the proof marks- a minor point, but a true one. This is the earliest .405 I've seen. SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Manufacturer: Winchester Model: 1895 Serial Number: 47xxx Barrel Length: 24 Condition: FINE+ Bore Condition: EXCELLENT |
