Description:
FULL DELUXE 1894 RIFLE WITH FANCY WALNUT, PISTOL GRIP ETC., .30WCF CALIBER, #291XXX, MADE 1905. This is a particularly handsome and unusual 1894. Usually when pistol grips were ordered the butt stocks have a shotgun butt. This one has the checkered pistol grip with the attractive crescent butt plate. It also has a matching checkered forend, half octagon barrel with half magazine. Further, it is fitted with a Lyman tang sight, full buckhorn rear sight and Lyman Beach folding globe front sight. I called the Cody Museum on this one and the call-in sheet has this one as having the serial number applied December 29, 1905; Rifle; caliber .30; 1/2 octagon barrel; plain trigger; plain pistol grip stock checkered; Sights: Lyman front and rear, Sporting rear; 1/2 magazine; received in the warehouse July 27, 1906 and shipped the same day. The receiver shows fine blue overall with some plum/brown mixing, but mainly good blue. The barrel also shows fine very lightly aged deep blue. All markings are sharp. The fancy/dark burl and grain walnut butt stock and forend show fine checkering and overall fine condition with the heavy "piano finish" Winchester used on fancy walnut deluxe rifles. A couple of tiny chips at the upper juncture of the wrist and receiver corners- minor. Still shows some case color on the upper portions of the lever with a little more color on the left side and fairly bright blue on the bolt. Tight action with bore only a little dark with fine rifling throughout and not pitted. An unusually attractive 1894 and one of the few that will letter with special sights.
