RARE CALIBER FOR AN 1895 SADDLE RING CARBINE, CHAMBERED IN .30-03, #71XXX, MADE 1910
Description: SUPER RARE CALIBER FOR AN 1895 SADDLE RING CARBINE, CHAMBERED IN .30-03, #71XXX, MADE 1910. The standard caliber for carbines was .30 Army (.30-40 Krag) with the .30-06 probably next in popularity. Some in .303 British were made and mainly shipped to Canada. This is the first carbine I've seen in the earlier .30 1903 cartridge. The .30-03 is identical to the .30-06, but has a slightly longer neck. The .30-03 was usually loaded with a 220 grain round nose bullet and the overall cartridge length of the two is about the same. It is/was common practice to fire .30-06 cartridges in the .30-03 chambering as the dimensions are identical aside from the slightly longer neck of the 'o3. This one retains fine barrel blue with slight wear only, good blue on the barrel band with outer edge wear only, Correct ladder rear sight with slide intact. The receiver shows good blue in the protected areas with fine blue on the bolt, lever and magazine. Good blue around the saddle ring. Excellent markings, no extra holes, exc. screws. Excellent stock and forend with originl handguard (these usually missing). Handguard is also excellent without cracks. Very tight wood to metal fit. Excellent bore, tight action, strong safety half-cock on the hammer. This one came out of here in Montana. Really rare caliber in a carbine! SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Rifle Caliber: .30-03 Manufacturer: WINCHESTER Model: 1895 SADDLE RING CARB. Serial Number: 71XXX Barrel Length: 22 Condition: FINE Bore Condition: EXCELLENT |
