RARE VERY LATE 1873 SADDLE RING CARBINE IN SUPER SCARCE .32-20 CALIBER, #696XXX, SHIPPED 1912.
Description: INTERESTING AND SUPER RARE VERY LATE 1873 SADDLE RING CARBINE IN SUPER SCARCE .32-20 CALIBER, #696XXX, SHIPPED 1912. A lot of Winchester collectors don't realize the rarity of the .32-20 in '73 carbine configuration, but very few were made as almost all were made in .38-40 and .44-40. Also interesting is the fact that this is such a late production example. As many shipping destinations exist for late 1873s, I called the Cody Museum on this one and received the "call-in sheet" verifying that this was originally manufactured as a .32 caliber carbine with serial number applied March 12, 1912; received in the warehouse April 23, 1912 and shipped on June 13, 1912 to Simmons Hardware Company of St. Louis, Missouri. Many, if not most of these late 1873s were exported at this time, so it is also intteresting that this one was shipped to Simmons- it is possible that Simmons, who were huge retailers of Colt and Winchester firearms, shipped it to Mexico (this was during the Mexican Revolution) or somewhere else outside of the U.S. Quickly identified by the lack of a full forward barrel band, instead having a magazine retaining band over the mag tube only and attached to the bottom of the barrel as on a rifle. Overall a solid example. Barrel, magazine and receiver are mostly a blending of gray and brown. Mellow, uncleaned brass lefter stsamped .32 CAL. Original ladder rear carbine sight with slide intact, dust cover intact, fine butt stock and forend with a very small 1/2" silver shield in the right side of the stock just behind the wrist- meaning unknown, possibly for an initial or just to identify this carbine. Action is tight and the bore is fine with strong rifling all the way through and any corrosion very minor and surface. Not many of these around! Shipped the year the Titanic sank! SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Rifle Caliber: .32-20 Winchester Manufacturer: WINCHESTER Model: 1873 CARBINE Serial Number: 696XXX Barrel Length: 20 Condition: VG Bore Condition: FINE |
