Rare Winchester Model 55 Takedown with Stainless Steel Barrel
Description: Rare Winchester Model 55 Takedown with Stainless Steel Barrel. 30 WCF. The Model 55 was intended to be a simplified version of the Model 94 with no special order features available except takedown and caliber. This particular rifle has the very rare stainless steel barrel marked with the standard Winchester one line marking on the left side and two line New Haven address on the right. Stainless steel barrels were only offered for a very short time. It was not accepted by the public as it would not hold its black finish which the buying public wanted. The upper tang is stamped with the three line Winchester trademark. Manufactured in 1926. This is a nice early Model 55. Takedown feature locks up nice and tight. 24” barrel retains 85 to 90% of its original factory black finish, otherwise known on the collectors market as being black enameled or Japanned finish. Stainless Steel barrels were eventually phased out around 1930, thus becoming sort of a rarity. Excellent bore and action functions nicely. Receiver retains 15% original blue with the remainder a brown patina. Both forend and buttstock are in good condition showing normal handling marks. Tiny age crack located on right side of wrist area, it’s nothing but I want to mention it. Correct buttplate. Don’t miss out on a seldom seen Winchester Model 55 with a Stainless Steel Barrel with the majority of its original barrel finish. Must ship to a FFL or Curio and Relics license holder. Please feel free to ask questions. I offer a layaway and will consider trades. Curio/Relic: Yes Price: $2,895.00 Buy Now Contact Seller |
