SOLD BY THE INVENTOR JOHN MOSES BROWNING! OUTSTANDING 1894 OCT. RIFLE IN SCARCE .25-35 CALIBER
MADE 1912
Description: SOLD BY THE INVENTOR, JOHN MOSES BROWNING! OUTSTANDING 1894 OCTAGON RIFLE IN SCARCE .25-35 CALIBER, #536XXX, MADE 1912. Perhaps John Browning handled this one himself as the to of the barrel is marked with the correct tiny letters "BROWNING BROS CO. OGDEN U." It is interesting that from the earliest days when the Browning marking ended in "U. T." for Utah Territory, they always used a tiny stamp that you almost need a magnifying glass to read- one way to determine if the stamping is authentic! Browning had a family run shop in Ogden, Utah and guns that they sold often have this stamping. At least it is one way of knowing where the gun originated, and in this case, the West. This example retains fine deep receiver blue with only some thinning on the edges and bottom etc. Even the upper tang retains excellent deep blue. Similarly, the barrel and mag retain excellent deep blue with only the lightest of wear. Excellent wood with tight wood to metal fit and showing very light handling only. Still shows some light case color on the protected parts of the lever and hammer back. Fitted with a flat top buckhorn rear sight with elevator bar and a tall Marble 45W blade/bead front sight. Tight action and excellent, sharp bright bore! Great caliber, condition and wonderful historical marking! SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Manufacturer: Winchester Model: 1894 OCT. RIFLE Serial Number: 536XXX Barrel Length: 26" OCT. Condition: EXCELLENT Bore Condition: EXCELLENT |
