SPECIAL ORDER 1895 CARBINE WITH UNUSUAL FEATURES AND WINCHESTER LETTER, #38XXX, MADE 1902
Description: SPECIAL ORDER 1895 CARBINE WITH UNUSUAL FEATURES AND WINCHESTER LETTER, #38XXX, MADE 1902. Special order 1895s are uncommon with special order carbines almost never seen. This example letters as: Serial number applied August 22, 1902; Carbine; caliber 30; barrel length 22 inches; sights: Sporting rear, Lyman front; No sling ring; No barrel covers; received in warehouse on August 29, 1902; shipped from warehouse on August 30, 1902. I have only seen one other 1895 carbine specially made without provision for handguard. It is easy to spot as the forend on standard carbines with handguards have cuts in the top portion of the forend by the barrel to accept the steel clips that hold the forend in place. Also carbines come standard with sling rings and Tangent/ladder military style rear sights- this one has the sporting buckhorn rear sight with elevator bar intact. The front sight blade that is pinned into the standard base is made of brass. This .30-40 caliber carbine retains fine lightly aged barrel blue with some wear just ahead of the receiver ring which is the balance point where one's hand naturally goes. The receiver shows excellent markings and has good thinning blue on the right side that is mixing gray/brown with deeper blue in the protected areas and on the magazine side. The Right side has more blue with heavy edge wear and excellent blue on the bolt. The stock and forend show only normal light handling with tight wood to metal fit, tight action, excellent bore and overall fine appearance. You can go a lifetime of looking and never see one with special order features like this! SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Rifle Caliber: .30-40 Krag Manufacturer: Winchester Model: SPECIAL ORDER 1895 Serial Number: 38XXX Barrel Length: 22 Condition: FINE Bore Condition: EXCELLENT |
