Special Order Winchester 1892 Deluxe Half Octagonal Half Round 26 Inch Barrel Button Mag Cody Verified 38-40 Made 1901
Description:
Guns by Sally-always the best for less. We are way proud to offer this extremely scarce Winchester 1892 rifle, decked out with no less than six special order features. The hardest to find is a longer than standard barrel, done in half round, half octagonal, no less. The rarity chart for the 1892 shows that this was rarely requested. If you do not have the Winchester book, I have photographed it for your reference. Madis explains that few would order an 1892 chambered in short range calibers with a longer barrel when more powerful long range cartridges were available from other Winchester stablemates. That would include the 1886, the 1894, and the 1895. Collectors go gaga over short barreled carbines, when in reality, they are commonplace compared to longer barrels on a rifle. Longer barrels were discontinued in 1908, making them even more scarce. When you combine this with a pistol grip stock, checkering, a Lyman ivory front sight, and a button magazine, the rarity factor goes off the charts. Even the caliber is special. Chambered in 38-40 WCF, the actual bore diameter is 40 caliber. I believe Winchester did not want to confuse by having a 40-40 and a 44-40. Made in the year of our Lord 1901, she is in good condition for being 120 years old. The nicely figured wood has light handling marks, but has no major distractions. Nothing says Winchester like a crescent butt plate. The pistol grip cap even bears the telltale engraved screw. This rifle received some good care, as evidenced by the clear stampings and tight action. There is a WWV stamp by the caliber marking, perhaps relating to the owner or his ranch. It works as designed, including the half cock safety. The bore is also good, with strong rifling and plenty of shine. All features are verified by the fine folks at the Cody Museum, and the worksheet will be included with the gun. Matching assembly numbers are found on the tang, stock, and butt plate. Winchester rifles of this rarity rarely surface on the market, and fetch a king's ransom when they do. I will list this one at a fair price. Investors, take note. This is the kind of gun that can be sent off to the big gun sales and a huge profit is likely. This is one gun that looks even better in person than in the photographs. If you have been looking for the right special order '92, with the added clout of a longer barrel, then look no further.
